Leadership is about being,
more than knowing,
about emotion more than cognition,
about spirit more than matter.
- Sketches of the Equestrian Art - Fred Kofman
Why are
horses suitable for leadership training?
Horses
always ask: Who is leading? They expect us to:
-
embody
what we care about
-
stay
centered on what is important to us
-
follow
through with clarity and purpose.
In so
doing, they help us understand that leadership begins with who we are.
Having no
ego and living in the world of non-verbal communication, horses are not
impressed with position, money or power. Horses fight for their place in the
herd hierarchy and only defer to those who they feel will keep them safe as
a leader.
Horses
model the essential qualities of trust, authenticity, honesty, intuition,
listening, willingness and perseverance. They provide honest,
non-judgemental feedback, reflecting back our strength of character, our
heart, our internal incongruence and our self-limiting perceptions.
Horses
help us close the gap between how we actually present ourselves to others,
and how we think we are being.
Horses
live 100% in the present. Their power lies in their ability to choose and to
act for the sole purpose of staying alive. Each day requires a different
degree of focus, stamina, determination and presence.
Horse-Alliance
seminars are reduced to the essentials of leadership practice. Our horses
have the instinctive and natural behaviours that enable us to quickly arrive
at what leadership is all about. Learning is a process of change and in
order to learn, we must, to a certain degree, let go of who we think we are
and what we think we know.
At
Horse-Alliance, we don't give advice or answers. There is no right or
wrong way to lead, there is your way! We hold a space for you to expand into
and the horses lead the way. All you need is within you. It's not about the
horses, it's about YOU - and as you work with the horses, you'll have a lot
of fun along the way!
